Have you ever wondered what the insides of the main landing gear hydraulic cylinders look like?  Here are the cylinders from a 14-19 - first as installed in the left hand gear well.  The shaft points forward, the attach point is to the spar.  14-19-2s have a roughly similar setup but the cylinder is slightly smaller and the 230s do not have the fitting protruding from the spar.

The cylinder is just a plain steel cylinder with grooves on either end to accept a C-clip.  The clips retain the aluminum end plugs, which have O-rings to seal the cylinder.  The O-rings fit into the large grooves on the end plugs and shaft.  The AN-fittings are screwed into the end plugs.
